The Bee Cell is a single cell nesting site designed for solitary bees.
Inspired by the guerilla gardening movement, the Bee Cell bee house makes a great gift for the garden lover in your life and is a super easy way to create additional space for cavity nesting solitary bee species. The packaging wrap contains lots of info to help spread awareness about our brilliant bees.
The Bee Cell looks great on a garden wall, in amongst a log pile, on a sunny windowsill, anywhere where you can add a little space for wildlife.
The Bee Cell is designed and made by Green&Blue in the UK. Made in Cornwall from concrete, using 75% recycled material from the Cornish China clay industry.
Each Bee cell measures 28mm diameter and 150mm length
Available in White, Yellow or Charcoal
The Bee Cell should be positioned in a warm sunny spot, south facing, with no vegetation in front of the fascia. Ideally placed at least 1/2 metre from the ground with no upward limit.
Bee Cell is solid at the back and has a single cavity where solitary bees, such as red mason and leafcutter bees, will lay their eggs, sealing the entrance with mud or chewed up vegetation. Offspring emerge in the Spring and begin the process of nesting again, repeating the cycle.
Solitary bees are facing a dramatic decline in numbers due to disease, an increase in chemical use and habitat loss. Pollinators account for 1/3 of the food we eat and are a vital part of our environment. The Bee Cell can be used in urban spaces and places where there may not be alternative nesting sites for bees, either built into a wall or building or simply stood alone in a garden or allotment. Solitary bees are harmless and will not sting you unless you handle them roughly, even then their stings are not painful, meaning they are safe to encourage around pets and children.
